Reading, MA

Reading is a city located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was estimated to be 106,988 as of 2015. Reading is the principal city of the Reading Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 253,742 as of the 2010 census.

Reading is one of the oldest cities in Massachusetts and was first settled by Europeans in 1630. The town was initially named Billerica after William Billerica, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury. The name was changed to Reading in 1713 after the English Duke of Gloucester and King George I visited the town and were impressed by its reading rooms and libraries. Today Reading is an important economic center in southeastern Massachusetts with a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, health care, information technology, and financial services.
