Warren was first settled in 1638 as part of Charlestown by English Puritans who were fleeing religious persecution in England. The town was officially incorporated on February 14, 1793. Warren became an industrial center during the 19th century with textile mills and other factories producing textiles, shoes, and other products for the American market. However, following World War II Warren's economy went into decline as many of its factories closed down. However, since the 1990s there has been a resurgence in Warren's economy with new businesses and residential developments being built.
