Westford is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 10,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Boston metropolitan area.
The town was first settled in 1636 as part of Charlestown and was known as Westford Village until 1768 when it became an independent town. The first settler in what would become Westford was Nicholas Easton who built a cabin on what is now East Street. In 1640, John Winthrop and his followers stopped at Easton's cabin on their way to found the city of Boston.
In 1768, after the American Revolution had ended, Westford became an independent town with its own government and elected officials. At that time, it consisted of only a few scattered farms and homes. The town's growth began in earnest during the Industrial Revolution when new factories were built to serve the growing population of Boston.
Today, Westford is a thriving community with many businesses and attractions catering to its residents and visitors alike. Its historic downtown district features many well-preserved buildings from the late 18th century onwards including several churches, municipal buildings (including the Town Hall), commercial buildings, and residences.
The main street through downtown Westford is lined with shops, restaurants, banks and other businesses that cater to both locals and tourists visiting the area. There are also several parks located throughout Westford which offer residents plenty of opportunities for recreation year-round including hiking trails, playgrounds and ball fields.
