Bad Axe, MI

Bad Axe is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is located on the eastern shore of Lake Superior, about halfway between Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census.

The town's economy is based largely on tourism, with visitors coming to enjoy fishing and boating in the lake, hiking and biking trails in the area, and skiing at nearby resorts. Bad Axe also has a number of small businesses that cater to tourists, such as a bakery that makes pies from local fruit, a souvenir shop that sells T-shirts with slogans like "I survived Bad Axe" and "I'm from Bad Axe", and a restaurant called The Fish House that specializes in fresh fish caught from Lake Superior.

Real estate in Bad Axe is dominated by vacation homes or second homes for people who live elsewhere but visit frequently. There are also some rental properties available, but they are mostly occupied by people who own their own homes elsewhere and use Bad Axe as a weekend getaway or place to stay while they are working in Marquette or Sault Ste. Marie. The average price for an acre of land in Badaxe was $127,000 in 2013.
