Carney, MI

Carney is a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It has a population of just over 1,000 people and is located about 45 minutes north of Marquette. Carney was first settled in 1852 and was originally known as Northport. The town was renamed Carney in 1892 after William Carney, an early settler and mill owner.

Today, Carney is primarily a farming community with some small businesses scattered throughout the town. The main economic drivers are agriculture and tourism. There are several farms in the area that produce crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. Additionally, there are several bed-and-breakfasts and tourist attractions located in Carney including the nearby Ironwood Forest National Monument and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The real estate market in Carney is generally stable with modest growth rates over the past few years. There is currently a shortage of housing available for purchase or lease due to the low population density in the town. However, this situation is expected to change as new residents move into the area or existing residents retire.
