Grand Haven is a city located in the U.S. state of Michigan on the Grand River. The population was 20,812 at the 2010 census. The city is served by the Grand Haven Area Schools district and has a mayor-council form of government.

The first settlers arrived in what is now Grand Haven in 1825, when fur trader Pierre Laclède and his party stopped on their way to Mackinac Island from Canada. They were followed by missionaries and other settlers who established farms and businesses along the riverfront. In 1835, a group of businessmen from Detroit founded what became known as "The Village on the River". It grew rapidly, thanks to its location on one of the busiest waterways in Michigan and its proximity to Detroit. In 1857, The Village was incorporated as a town under the name of Grand Haven after it was chosen as the site for a naval base during the American Civil War.

Today, Grand Haven is an attractive waterfront community with many historic buildings and attractions that make it a popular tourist destination. Its downtown area features several restaurants, shops, galleries, banks and other businesses that cater to tourists visiting nearby Mackinac Island or enjoying activities such as boating or fishing on Lake Michigan. There are also several parks located throughout the city that offer residents and visitors plenty of opportunities for recreation including golfing, biking, swimming and hiking trails.

Real estate in Grand Haven is typically priced lower than most other areas of Michigan due to its close proximity to Detroit which makes it an ideal place for people who want to live in an urban environment but also have access to affordable housing options outside of downtown Detroit itself . Additionally , because there are so many amenities available within walking distance (or bike ride) such as restaurants , shopping , parks etc., residents don't need to rely as much on cars which can be expensive to maintain . As such , real estate prices tend not be too affected by fluctuations in market conditions .
