Hazel Park is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 38,812 at the 2010 census. Hazel Park is a suburb of Detroit and is part of the Detroit metropolitan area.

The city was founded in 1891 by Augustus Hazel, who had purchased land from the federal government for $10 an acre (4,000 m²). The town's name honors Augustus Hazel, a wealthy lumberman and politician from Maine who had helped finance Michigan's first railroad project. In 1907, Hazel Park became home to Ford Motor Company's first automobile plant; it was also home to one of General Motors' earliest plants.

Today, Hazel Park is known for its upscale suburban neighborhoods and its many well-known businesses including Kmart Corporation (now Sears), Meijer Inc., and JCPenney Corporation (now Macy's). The city has also been home to several professional sports teams over the years including the Detroit Pistons (NBA), Detroit Tigers (MLB), and Oakland County Cougars (AFL).
