Livonia, MI

Livonia is a city in Wayne County, Michigan, United States. The population was 116,912 at the 2010 census. Livonia is a suburb of Detroit and is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. It is home to many large corporations, including Ford Motor Company's American headquarters and the headquarters of Quicken Loans Inc., one of the largest mortgage lenders in the world.

The city was founded in 1817 by General Moses Cleaveland on land donated by Chief Pontiac. It was incorporated as a village in 1825 and as a city in 1827. The first railroad line into Livonia opened in 1855, connecting it with Detroit. In 1909, Ford Motor Company opened its first plant outside of Detroit here. Today, Ford employs about 4,000 people at its Livonia complex and makes engines and other automotive components for sale worldwide. Other major employers include Chrysler Group LLC (about 2,000 employees), Honeywell International (1,500), BorgWarner (1,200), Compuware Corporation (1,100) and DTE Energy (800).

The city has experienced rapid growth since World War II due to its proximity to Detroit and its excellent infrastructure: highways leading into town from all directions; an international airport; ample water supplies; ample electrical supplies; numerous shopping centers; excellent schools; and abundant recreational opportunities both indoors and outdoors. Livonia has also been able to maintain a high level of community spirit despite rapid growth – something that can be difficult to do in larger cities where residents may be more spread out geographically or have less contact with each other on a daily basis. This sense of community spirit has helped make Livonia one of the most desirable places to live in Michigan – not only for those who work there or own homes there but also for those who are simply looking for an enjoyable place to raise their families.
