Benson, MN

Benson is a small town located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Benson is located in the Twin Cities metropolitan area and is bordered by Robbinsdale to the north, Maple Grove to the east, Fridley to the south, and Eden Prairie to the west.

The history of Benson dates back to 1856 when it was founded as a railroad town. The town's name comes from General James B. Benson who served in both World Wars and was a prominent figure in Minnesota politics. In addition to its railroad roots, Benson has also been known for its furniture manufacturing industry and its agricultural production. Today, Benson is home to several businesses including a bank, two grocery stores, two gas stations/convenience stores, an ice cream shop/cinema complex (the only one of its kind in Hennepin County), two restaurants (including a pizza place that has been open since 1957), three churches (including an evangelical megachurch), and several small businesses including a car dealership and a hair salon.
