Forbes is a small town located in northeastern Minnesota. The population was 1,936 at the 2010 census. Forbes is located in Blue Earth County and is bordered by Clear Lake to the south, Hutchinson to the west, and Albert Lea to the north.

Forbes was founded in 1868 by George Forbes and John A. Macdonald. The town was named for Scottish economist Adam Smith, who was also a friend of George Forbes. The first settler in Forbes was Joseph Kappeler, who arrived in 1868 with his family from Germany. Kappeler opened a general store and post office that same year.

The town's early economy depended on agriculture and lumbering. In 1886, the Northern Pacific Railway came through Forbes and started a lumber mill that operated until 1916. The mill provided jobs for many of the town's residents until it closed down due to competition from other mills around the country.

In recent years, Forbes has seen an increase in tourism due to its location near several lakes including Clear Lake and Silver Bay which are popular fishing spots. Several bed-and-breakfasts have also been established in recent years which has helped to revive the downtown area which had declined since the closure of several local businesses during the late 1990s recession.

Real estate prices vary greatly throughout Forbes based on location within town as well as proximity to lakes or other amenities such as shopping or dining establishments
