Montgomery is a small town located in central Minnesota. The population was 2,948 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montgomery County.
The town was founded in 1856 and named for General James E. Montgomery, a hero of the Mexican-American War. The original settlement consisted of a few log cabins and a sawmill. In 1857, the first post office opened and by 1860, there were enough people to form a town government.
Montgomery's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture and manufacturing, but today it also has a growing tourism industry thanks to its many historic sites and natural attractions such as Lake George (the largest man-made lake in Minnesota), Big Stone Lake, White Earth Indian Reservation, and Devil's Lake State Park.
