Matthews, MO

Matthews is a city located in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 34,814. Matthews is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area and had an estimated population of 38,936 as of July 1, 2016.

The history of Matthews can be traced back to 1822 when General James Wilkinson purchased land in what is now Matthews for his home and plantation. The town began to grow around this time and by 1838 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1859, the railroad came to Matthews and this led to an increase in both the population and businesses in the town. By 1900, Matthews had a population of over 10,000 people and it continued to grow throughout the 20th century.

Today, Matthews is a thriving city with many businesses and attractions that make it a great place to live or visit. Some of the most popular attractions in Matthews include The Children's Museum Of St Louis County (which opened in 2006), Schlafly Bottleworks (a craft brewery founded in 2004), The Fox Theatre (a historic movie theater that opened in 1928), and The Pageant Of Saint Louis (an annual summertime festival featuring music performances by famous artists).
