Fort Calhoun, NE

Fort Calhoun is a small town located in northeast Nebraska. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Fort Calhoun is home to a number of businesses and organizations, including a grain elevator, two churches, and an elementary school. The town's economy is based largely on agriculture and real estate.

The first settlers arrived in Fort Calhoun in 1871. At the time, the area was mostly prairieland covered with grasses and wildflowers. The town's name commemorates General William Tecumseh Sherman's 1868 victory over Confederate forces at the Battle of Fort Calhoun near Omaha, Nebraska.

Today, Fort Calhoun is a quiet community surrounded by farmland and forests.
