Scottsbluff, NE

Scottsbluff is a city in Scottsbluff County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 17,848 at the 2010 census. Scottsbluff is the principal city of the Scottsbluff Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 36,716 in 2009.

Scottsbluff was founded in 1868 as a railroad town on the Union Pacific Railroad line. It quickly became an important shipping point for wheat and other agricultural products from the Great Plains. In 1881, local businessman J.D. Webster established one of the first department stores in Nebraska and Scottsbluff soon became known for its high-quality retail establishments.

In recent years, Scottsbluff has emerged as a leading center for health care services and research in eastern Nebraska. The city's location near several major medical centers has helped make it a popular destination for both residents and tourists alike.
