Beverly is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 2,827,[10][11] reflecting an increase of 201 (+5.4%) from the 2,664 counted in the 2000 Census.[12]
Beverly was founded by an early settler named John Beverly who purchased land from the Lenape Native Americans in 1686. The town was incorporated as a borough on April 10, 1898,[13] based on the results of a referendum held that same day.[14] The borough's name is derived from Beverly Farms, one of its earliest landowners and founders.
The Borough has long been known for its horse farms and agriculture industry. In recent years however, it has become well-known for its luxury real estate market with properties commanding upwards of $10 million or more. Many high-end developments have been built in Beverly over the past few years including The Ritz-Carlton Residence at Fairview which sold for $24 million,[15] The Omni William Penn Hotel which sold for $100 million[16], and Trump National Golf Club Westchester which sold for $100 million[17].
