Columbia is a township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 9,890,[9][10] reflecting an increase of 556 (+5.4%) from the 8,611 counted in the 2000 Census,[11] which had in turn increased by 1,898 (+14.2%) from the 7,553 counted in the 1990 Census.[12]

The township was formed on March 3, 1798 as part of an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature that created eight additional townships within Morris County.[13] The township was named for Christopher Columbus.[14][15][16]

Columbia is located at (40.726902,-74.005922).[17] According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of 6.5 square miles (16 km2), all of which is land.[18]

The town center is located at U.S. Route 46 and County Route 519 and includes Columbia Mall and other businesses along these roads as well as residential areas to its east and west along Routes 46 and 519 respectively including Greenbrook Estates[19], Woodlands Estates[20], Windmill Lakes[21], Willowbrook[22], Pinehurst[23], Brookside Manor[24], Saddle Ridge[25], Stonebridge Estate,[26] Brookview Village,[27] The Villages at Brookside Manor [28]. There are also many single family homes scattered throughout with some being situated on large lots while others are closer to town but still offer plenty of privacy due to their wooded surroundings or expansive views overlooking either countryside or Lake Hopatcong
