Egg Harbor City is a small town located in Atlantic County, New Jersey. The population was 18,948 at the 2010 census. Egg Harbor City is a suburb of Philadelphia and has been nicknamed the "City of Palaces" because of its many historic homes and mansions. The city's economy is based on real estate, retail, and tourism.

The city was founded in 1792 by Nicholas Longworth and was originally known as Longworthtown. It was renamed Egg Harbor City in 1873 after the harbor that lies to its south. The city grew rapidly in the early 20th century as it became an affluent suburb of Philadelphia. Many wealthy Philadelphians moved to Egg Harbor City to escape the crowded city streets and enjoy the country lifestyle. Today, much of the city's architecture remains from this period including many well-maintained Victorian homes and estates.
