Howell is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,912,[1][2] reflecting an increase of 1,872 (+38.5%) from the 6,711 counted in the 2000 Census.[3]
Howell was founded by John Howell and his son-in-law William Ketcham on November 2, 1792. The town was named for General James Howell (1731–1807), a Revolutionary War hero who had been Governor of Connecticut. The first post office opened on February 3, 1793.[4] Howell became an incorporated borough on March 12, 1894.[5]
