Union is a borough in Union County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 9,527,[8][9] reflecting an increase of 1,711 (+41.2%) from the 6,851 counted in the 2000 Census,[10] which had in turn increased by 2,912 (+59.4%) from the 4,715 counted in the 1990 Census.[11]

Union was incorporated as a borough on March 3, 1894,[12] from portions of Elizabeth Township.[13][14][15] The borough was named for Union County.[16][17]

The Borough of Union is located at 40°50′N 74°07′W (40.8300°N -74.1500°W). According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.6 km2), all land.[18]

As of the census[19] of 2000, there were 6,851 people, 2,527 households and 1,975 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,608.4 per square mile (615.0/km2). There were 2,782 housing units at an average density of 586.3 per square mile (226.1/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97% White , 0% African American , 0% Native American , 1% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0% from other races , and 1% from two or more races .
