Bloomfield is a town located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern New Mexico. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. Bloomfield is home to one of the largest and most diverse collections of historic architecture in New Mexico. The town was founded in 1881 as a railroad stop on the Santa Fe Railroad. Bloomfield's name comes from early settler John Bloomfield, who named it after his home town of Bloomfield, England.

The economy of Bloomfield is based largely on tourism and agriculture. The town is known for its many historic buildings, including several churches, a post office, bank building and courthouse, as well as numerous homes built by prominent early settlers such as J.M.
