Bellmore, NY

Bellmore is a small town in Nassau County, New York, located about 25 miles east of New York City. The population was 20,812 at the 2010 census. Bellmore is known for its affluent and well-educated population, as well as its picturesque villages and estates.

The town's history can be traced back to the Dutch colony of New Netherland. In 1653, a group of English settlers from Long Island established a settlement on the eastern bank of the Great South Bay (now known as Bellmore Bay). The name " Bellmore" was derived from an old Dutch word meaning "beautiful meadow." The area gradually grew into a small agricultural community with a few scattered homes and businesses.

In 1825, the Town of Bellmore was incorporated by the state of New York. At that time, it had a population of just over 1,000 people. Over the next several decades, many wealthy families from Manhattan began moving to Bellmore in search of more privacy and space. Today, Bellmore is one of the most affluent towns in Nassau County and has one of the highest concentrations of wealth in all of Long Island.

The town's economy is based largely on real estate development and management. Many prominent buildings in downtown Bellmore were built by developers who turned this sleepy agricultural community into one of Long Island's most vibrant cities. Today, there are still many new homes being built in Bellmore each year; however, due to high prices and limited availability (due to its exclusive nature), muchof this new housing is occupied by wealthy residents who commute into Manhattan or Suffolk County for work.

One major attraction for residents and visitors alike is Mount Sinai Hospital - one of only two Level I trauma centers on Long Island (the other being Stony Brook University Medical Center). Mount Sinai provides critical care services to residents throughout Nassau County as well as patients from neighboring counties who travel here for treatment. Additionally, numerous restaurants and shops line Main Street in downtown Bellmore - making it an ideal place to spend a day or evening out with friends or family members.
