Cape Vincent, NY

Cape Vincent is a small town located in Jefferson County, New York. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Cape Vincent is known for its scenic location on the Hudson River and its many historic homes and buildings.

The first settlers arrived in Cape Vincent around 1790. The town was originally called " West Point" after the Revolutionary War fort located nearby. In 1810, it was renamed " Cape Vincent" after Commodore John D'Estaing, who had captured Fort Ticonderoga during the war. The town grew rapidly in the early 1800s as a result of its strategic location on the Hudson River and its proximity to New York City. Many wealthy businessmen and politicians built their homes in Cape Vincent, including Aaron Burr, James K. Polk, and Ulysses S. Grant.
