New Berlin is a small town located in the western part of Monroe County, New York. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester metropolitan area.

The town was first settled around 1798 by German immigrants who were attracted to its fertile farmland and its location on the Erie Canal. The town's name comes from Berlin, Germany, where many of these settlers had originated. The canal facilitated trade between New York City and western New England and helped make New Berlin an important commercial center. By 1825, there were enough prosperous businesses in the town to warrant incorporation as a village. In 1847, it became a city after being voted into existence by local residents referendum.

Today, New Berlin is an economically diverse community that features a wide range of businesses and services. Its economy is based largely on manufacturing (particularly machinery), health care services, and education (particularly at Monroe Community College). However, it has also developed a strong tourism industry thanks to its picturesque downtown district and numerous attractions nearby (including Canandaigua Lake State Park and Seneca Lake). As such, it continues to grow steadily despite recent economic challenges faced by many other parts of Monroe County.
