West Stockholm is a small town located in the Town of West Monroe, Monroe County, New York. The population was 1,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester metropolitan area.
The town was first settled around 1798 by Swedish immigrants and was originally called "Stockholm". The town name was changed to West Stockholm in 1892 in honor of Gustaf Vasa, the 16th century Swedish king who had led Sweden into its Golden Age.
West Stockholm is located on the western edge of Monroe County and is bordered by Brighton to the north, Henrietta to the east, Pittsford to the south and Greece to the west. The town is bisected by NY Route 5 (the Erie Canal) which runs through it from north to south. NY Route 5A ( Henrietta Road) runs parallel to NY Route 5 through West Stockholm from east to west. Interstate 490 passes just outside of West Stockholm on its way from Syracuse southeastward towards Albany.
