Avon, OH

Avon is a city in and the county seat of Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 33,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area.

Avon was platted in 1811 by John Armstrong and named for Lord Avon, an English statesman. The city was incorporated in 1816. A post office has been in operation at Avon since 1819.

The city's economy is based on retail sales, government services, and manufacturing. Major employers include the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (6%), Kroger (5%), Honda Manufacturing of America (4%), and GE Aviation (3%). In addition to its own businesses, Avon also serves as a regional center for several large national retailers including Macy's, Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney, Target Corporation, Home Depot Inc., and Walmart Inc..

Avon has two colleges: Miami University- Hamilton Campus and Sinclair Community College. There are also several churches including First Presbyterian Church of Avon which was founded in 1796; Trinity Lutheran Church which was founded in 1886; Christ United Methodist Church which was founded in 1924; St John Vianney Catholic Church which opened its doors on September 1st 1928; Temple Shalom-Emanuel which opened its doors on October 3rd 2006; Holy Redeemer Catholic Church which opened its doors on November 12th 2007; Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses which opened its doors on January 2nd 2008; New Beginnings Christian Fellowship which began service on February 25th 2009 . There are also several parks including Veterans Memorial Park located off I-75 Exit 131A/B near the intersection with SR 161/SR 153/SR 152 serving veterans from all wars as well as children who have lost a parent or guardian through military service or homicide victims as well as other special needs populations such as Autism Spectrum Disorder patients or those with intellectual disabilities
