Canton, OH

Canton is a city located in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 30,521 at the 2010 census. Canton is the county seat of Stark County and home to the Canton- Massillon metropolitan area which had a population of 754,724 as of 2010.

The city was founded in 1802 by General Moses Cleaveland on land purchased from the native Americans. It became an important center of trade and commerce due to its location on the Great Lakes Route and its proximity to Cleveland, Akron, Toledo and other midwestern cities. In 1906, Canton became the first city in America to install electric streetlights.

Today, Canton is an economic hub with a diversified economy that includes manufacturing (Boeing Aircraft Company is located in nearby Akron), health care (Stark Medical Center is one of the largest employers in town), retail (including Macy's and JCPenney) and service industries (including Ernst & Young LLP). The city has been ranked as one of "America's Most livable Cities" by Forbes magazine for eight consecutive years.

Real estate in Canton consists primarily of single-family homes built between 1920 and 1960; however there are also some newer developments including condominiums and apartments. The median price for a single-family home was $128,000 in 2016 according to Zillow data; this represents a decrease from $135,000 during 2015 but an increase from $110,000 during 2013. There are also a number of duplexes/triplexes available for purchase at prices ranging from $60K-$120K; these properties typically offer more square footage than traditional single family homes while still providing easy access to public transportation
