Mead is a small town located in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. Mead is home to the Mead Golf Course and the Mead Country Club.
The town of Mead was founded in 1907 by C.W. and Lula (Banks) Mead. The town was named for Lula's father, Major General George W. Mead who served in the Mexican-American War and in the Civil War. The first business opened in Mead was a general store operated by C.W., Lula, and their son, Clifford Banks Mead.
In 1916, Clifford Banks built a golf course on land that he had purchased from his father-in-law, Jethro Tullis Sr.. The golf course quickly became one of Tulsa County's most popular courses and hosted many professional tournaments over the years including the PGA Championship in 1936 and 1937 as well as numerous U.S Open Championships between 1921 and 1951 (the last being won by Ben Hogan).
Today, much of what makes Mead unique remains unchanged including its small town feel coupled with its close proximity to some of Tulsa County's most popular attractions such as Oral Roberts University and Lake Eufaula State Park which makes it an ideal place to live or visit year-round!
