Oregon City is a city located in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,521. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area.
The first white settlers arrived in Oregon City in 1843 and established a small farmstead on what is now known as Pioneer Square. The community began to grow when the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company built a line through town in 1872. The city's name was derived from the nearby Willamette River, which was named after William Henry Harrison, president of the United States at the time. In 1888, Oregon City became home to Lewis & Clark College (now Lewis & Clark University).
Today, Oregon City is an affluent suburban community with a mix of single-family homes and apartments. Its commercial district features several restaurants and shops along with banks and other financial institutions. The city also has two public parks: West Park and East Park. Several churches are located in Oregon City including First Presbyterian Church (established 1848), Congregational Church (1860), Trinity Episcopal Church (1892), Northwest Christian Church (1927), Christ Community Church (2002) and Messiah Lutheran Church (2004).
