Branchdale is a borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
The borough was founded in 1798 and named for its location on the Brandywine Creek. Branchdale is home to two historic homes: the William Penn House (built in 1728) and the John Dickinson House (built in 1750). The former is now a museum operated by Historic Brandywine Valley Foundation, while the latter is privately owned and not open to the public. Branchdale also has a number of other historical buildings including churches, mills, and stores.
Today Branchdale is best known for its numerous residential subdivisions which were developed beginning in the 1920s. These neighborhoods include Fox Chase Village (established 1923), Green Acres (established 1925), Highland Park (established 1927), Willow Grove (established 1929), Pine Brook Village (established 1930), and Woodlands Hills (established 1934). Each of these subdivisions features a variety of architectural styles including Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, Dutch Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, Cape Cod Style Homes, Ranch Style Homes and more. In addition to these neighborhoods there are also numerous single-family homes scattered throughout Branchdale as well as several multi-unit apartment complexes which were built beginning in the 1970s.
Today Branchdale continues to be an active community with many residents who commute into Philadelphia or other nearby townships for work. There are also many residents who enjoy walking or biking trails that run through town as well as participating in various community events such as block parties and holiday celebrations.
