East McKeesport, PA

East McKeesport is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.

East McKeesport was founded in 1892 and named for its founder, John McKee. The borough's early economy was based on coal mining and steel production. However, the decline of these industries led to economic hardship for East McKeesport residents in the late 20th century. In recent years, however, the borough has seen a resurgence in economic activity as it has become home to a number of businesses involved in health care and information technology.

The East McKeesport School District serves students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. As of 2013, the district's enrollment was 3,527 pupils with 497 teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12:1. Schools in the district (with 2014-15 enrollment data from PDE) are

McKeesport High School (9th-12th; 1,368 students). East McKeesports' only private school is Saint Francis de Sales Catholic School which serves pre-kindergarten through eighth grade with an enrollment of 260 pupils as of 2014-15 school year.
