Easton, PA

Easton is a city located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,827. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Easton was founded in 1752 and incorporated as a borough in 1854. The borough's history is closely tied to that of its neighbor, Philadelphia; both were founded by Quakers who migrated from England in the mid-18th century. Easton served as an important transportation hub for both cities for more than two centuries. The Delaware and Hudson Canal ran through town and connected to the Schuylkill River system, which allowed goods to be transported throughout eastern Pennsylvania and into New York City.

Today, Easton is a thriving community with a diversified economy. The largest employers are University of Pennsylvania Health System (with 11,000 employees) and Lehigh Valley Health Network (with 9500 employees). There are also many small businesses and professional services providers in town. Tourism is also an important part of the economy: Historic Eastern State Penitentiary is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Pennsylvania, and there are numerous other attractions within easy reach such as Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park and King's Island amusement park.
