Hazleton is a city located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,098. Hazleton is the county seat of Luzerne County and is situated on the eastern bank of the Susquehanna River. The city has been known for its coal mining and steel production since its founding in 1855. Hazleton's economy has diversified in recent years to include health care, retail, and manufacturing.

The history of real estate in Hazleton can be traced back to 1786 when John Potter purchased a tract of land on which he built a home. Potter's tract became known as " Potter's Hill." In 1855, James Hazlewood founded Hazleton as a coal mining town and named it for his friend and political ally, James Harrisonsville (later renamed Harrisburg). The first business in Hazleton was opened by John Potter's son-in-law, George Stephenson. Coal mining was the primary industry in Hazleton during its early years; however, this changed with the development of steel production in the late 1800s.
