Mohnton is a small town in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, located about 20 miles west of Philadelphia. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. Mohnton is known for its well-preserved historic district and for its many fine homes and estates.

The town was founded in 1740 by German settlers who named it after the city of Mohnton in the Palatinate region of Germany. The first settler in Mohnton was Johannes Meyer, who purchased a tract of land from the Penn family. In 1749, Meyer built a log cabin on his property and began to cultivate crops. By 1752, there were enough settlers in Mohnton to form a church congregation.

Mohnton prospered as a farming community until the mid-19th century when coal mining began to play an important role in the local economy. Coal mining continued to be an important part of Mohnton's economy until the early 21st century when it began to decline due to technological advances and competition from other coal-producing areas around the country. Today, Mohnton is primarily a residential community with some businesses located nearby.

The well-preserved historic district of Mohnton contains more than 100 buildings dating from the 18th through early 20th centuries. Many of these buildings are stately homes or estates that have been restored and are now used as private residences or vacation properties.
