Oakmont, PA

Oakmont is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.

Oakmont was first settled in 1788 and incorporated as a borough in 1892. The borough's name comes from the oak trees that once lined its streets. Oakmont is located on the eastern edge of Allegheny County at the foot of Mount Washington and overlooks the city of Pittsburgh to the east and McKeesport to the south.

The borough's economy has been based largely on its proximity to downtown Pittsburgh and its role as a bedroom community for workers in both cities. Oakmont has seen significant growth over recent years as new housing developments have been built near Interstate 279 and UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, drawing people from both Pittsburgh and McKeesport. However, there has been some concern that this growth may not be sustainable due to Oakmont's limited infrastructure and lack of retail stores or restaurants.

Oakmont is home to several notable institutions, including UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals in Pennsylvania; Shadyside Academy (formerly known as Oakmont High School), which is one of Pennsylvania's top-performing public high schools; St Joseph's Villa (a Catholic retirement home); Saint Vincent College (a four-year liberal arts college); and Christ Church Cathedral (the Episcopal seat of Allegheny County).
