The town of Pocono Lake was founded in 1892 by George W. Farrar and his wife, Caroline (née Hahn). They named the town after the Pocono Mountains, which are located just to the east of the town. The Farrars were early settlers in Monroe County and played an important role in its development.
Pocono Lake is located in southwestern Pennsylvania near the New York state line. It is bordered by East Stroudsburg to the north, Monroe Township to the east, North Whitehall Township to the south, and West Stroudsburg to the west.
