Schwenksville is a small town located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The population was 2,898 as of the 2010 census. Schwenksville is located at 40°5′N 75°24′W / 40.0917°N 75.4333°W / 40.0917; -75.4333 and has an elevation of 1,711 feet (522 m).
The area that Schwenksville now occupies was first settled in the early 18th century by German immigrants who were farmers and millers. The town's name is derived from Jacob Schwenk, one of the original settlers. In 1751, a sawmill was built on the banks of the Susquehanna River and soon became a major industry in Schwenksville. The sawmill operated until 1957 and remains one of the town's most notable landmarks today.
Today, Schwenksville is primarily a residential community with a small commercial district along Main Street. The main attraction for visitors to Schwenksville is its historic downtown district which features several well-preserved buildings from the colonial era including an old courthouse and jailhouse dating back to 1753, as well as several homes from that period which are open for tours during summer weekends. There are also several shops and restaurants located in downtown Schwenksville which make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike
