Westfield is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.
The borough was founded in 1892 and named for Westfield, Massachusetts. The borough's first business was a general store opened by George W. Hays and Charles A. Brownlee on July 4 of that year. The store became known as "Hays' Corner" and served as the nucleus of the community until it burned down in 1916. A new store was built on the same site and operated by Hays' descendants until it closed in 1978.
In 1897, Westfield erected its first public building - a firehouse - which still stands today at 6th Avenue and Main Street ( PA Route 8). In 1904, a library was established with help from Andrew Carnegie; it moved to its present location at 5th Avenue and Main Street in 1926.
The borough's early growth can be attributed to its strategic location just outside of Pittsburgh on the main route between both cities: U.S Route 22/30 (Main Street). This highway junction became known as " Westfield Junction" because of all the businesses that sprang up along it including a gas station, two restaurants (the Blue Jay Inn & Restaurant and Joe's Bar & Grill), two banks (the Citizens National Bank & Trust Company and Peoples Savings Bank), three garages (the Ford Garage at 6th Avenue & Main Street; Harry Siegel Auto Service at 7th Avenue & Main Street; John Jurgensmeyer Garage at 8th Avenue & Main Street), four barbershops (Eddie's Barber Shop at 6th Avenue & Penn Square; Harry Karpis Barber Shop at 7th Avenue & Penn Square; Murray's Barber Shop at 8th Avenue & Penn Square; Jerry Katz Barber Shop on 9th Avenue near Penn Square), five beauty salons (Karen's Hair Salon on 5th Ave.; Shirley Ann Beauty Salon on 6th Ave.; Evelyn Nesbit Beauty Salon on 7th Ave.; Marilyn Miller Beauty Salon on 8th Ave.; SueAnn Cavanaugh Beauty Salon on 9 th Ave.), two churches (First Presbyterian Church located near Ford Garage) and one movie theater ("The Paramount").
In 1923, Westfield erected its own municipal building - now home to Borough offices - located at 5 th avenue and Pine Streets adjacent to what is now called Municipal Park .
