Coward, SC

Coward is a small town located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Coward is home to the Coward- Newberry County Airport and the Coward Historic District.

The town of Coward was founded in 1892 by W.H. Newberry and named for his friend, Major General William F. "Bull" Nelson of the Confederate States Army who had died earlier that year. The town's early economy was based on agriculture and milling; however, it has since developed into a commercial center with a variety of businesses including restaurants, convenience stores, hardware stores, banks, and insurance companies.
