Cedar Hill, TN

Cedar Hill is a suburb of Nashville, Tennessee. The population was 17,827 at the 2010 census. Cedar Hill is located in Davidson County, just east of downtown Nashville.

The first settlers arrived in the area around 1815. The community was originally called "Duncannon Station." In 1824, the community was renamed " Cedar Hill" after a grove of cedar trees that stood near the original settlement. A post office was established at Cedar Hill in 1825.

In 1859, Cedar Hill became part of Nashville when it was incorporated as a town. The town grew rapidly due to its location close to downtown Nashville and its many businesses catering to travelers on Interstate 65 and other highways passing through Davidson County. By 1900, Cedar Hill had a population of 2,000 and boasted several businesses including two banks and a newspaper publisher.

During the 1920s and 1930s, Cedar Hill experienced significant growth as new homes were built for middle-class families who were moving into Davidson County from across the country. This growth continued into the postwar years as more families moved into Cedar Hill due to its excellent schools and proximity to downtown Nashville. By 1960, Cedar Hill had a population of 10,000 and boasted over 50 businesses including two large department stores and three newspapers.

Today, Cedar Hill remains an affluent suburb of Nashville with a population that has grown steadily since 1960 thanks to continued development along I-65 and other major highways in Davidson County. While there have been some changes over the past few decades – most notably an increase in suburban sprawl – much about life in Cedar Hills remains unchanged from when it first became known as "the little town on the hill."
