Gainesboro, TN

Gainesboro is a small town located in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Williamson County.

The town was founded in 1819 by James Gaines and William Overton as a trading post on the Natchez Trace. The town became an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the 19th century. In 1868, Gainesboro became the first incorporated city in Tennessee.

Today, Gainesboro is a thriving community with a variety of businesses and attractions. The downtown area features several restaurants and shops, as well as a movie theater and bank branch. There are also several parks and recreational facilities available for residents to enjoy.
