The history of Lookout Mountain dates back to the early 1800s when Cherokee and Creek Native Americans inhabited the area. In 1806, General Andrew Jackson and his troops passed through on their way to victory at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. The next year, settlers began arriving in search of land and timber. By 1811, a small community had formed around what is now known as Lookout Point.

In 1821, James Robertson purchased 640 acres of land on Lookout Mountain and built a log cabin that he called "The Hermitage." Over time, other settlers arrived and built homes near Robertson's property. In 1840, Robertson's grandson donated 160 acres of land for use as a school district; this area became known as "Robertsonville." The town continued to grow over the years; by 1870 it had a population of 350 people.

Today, Lookout Mountain is still an active community with plenty of things to do! There are several hiking trails that wind through the woods below the mountain peaks, making it perfect for nature lovers or hikers looking for a challenging trail experience.
