Apple Springs is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. Apple Springs is known for its apple orchards and the annual Apple Springs Festival.
The town was founded in 1881 by John A. Appleseed and his wife, Matilda Appleseed. The first buildings were constructed of logs and adobe bricks. In 1882, a post office was established and the town's name was changed to Apple Springs after the apples that grew abundantly in the area. The first school opened in 1884 with six students enrolled.
In 1888, a railroad line was built through Apple Springs and it became an important transportation hub for the surrounding agricultural region. As a result of this growth, many businesses were established in Apple Springs including a bank (which still operates today), a hotel, several stores, and two churches.
Today, most of the businesses that were present in Apple Springs when it first began to grow have closed down or been replaced by newer establishments but the town retains its character and charm thanks to its historic buildings and attractions such as the Old Stone Mill Museum which is open every Saturday from May through October from 9am to 4pm (closed December 25th).
