Fort Worth, TX

Fort Worth is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,830,351 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth most populous city in the Dallas– Fort Worth– Arlington metropolitan area. Fort Worth is the largest city in the North Central Texas region and has been named one of America's "Best Places to Live" by Forbes magazine six times since 2002.

The city was established in 1849 as an Army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. It became an important trade center for cattle drives moving north from Texas to Kansas and Colorado. The railroads arrived in 1881 and helped make Fort Worth one of the world's leading cattle shipping centers; however, railroads also led to its decline as a trading center after World War II. Fort Worth continued to grow because of its military presence and because it developed a strong medical technology industry after World War II.

Today, Fort Worth is home to several Fortune 500 companies and numerous smaller businesses that have contributed to its economic growth. Its major industries are defense contracting (Boeing Defense, Lockheed Martin), medical technology (Medtronic), banking/finance (JP Morgan Chase & Co.), telecommunications (AT&T Inc.), oil/gas production ( Halliburton Co.), information technology (IBM Corp.) and tourism (Downtown Fort Worth).
