Hargill, TX

Hargill is a small town located in the Hill Country of Central Texas. The population was just over 1,000 as of the 2010 census. The town is situated on U.S. Highway 183, about halfway between Austin and San Antonio.

The history of Hargill can be traced back to 1875 when the first settlers arrived and established a small community called "Newtown". In 1883, Newtown was renamed Hargill after General James Hargill, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and in the American Civil War. The town grew slowly at first, but began to experience rapid growth starting in the early 1990s when new housing developments were constructed near US 183. Today, Hargill is home to several businesses and restaurants as well as a few churches and schools.
