Hempstead, TX

Hempstead is a suburban city located in Nassau County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 104,724. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. Hempstead is known for its high-end real estate and affluent residents.

The city was founded in 1905 by George W. Hempstead and his brother-in-law, J.P. Morgan partner James Stillman Sr., who purchased a tract of land from John Dixey for $15,000 and laid out plans for what would become one of America's most exclusive suburbs. The name " Hempstead" is derived from the name of their ancestor, William Henry Harrison's son-in-law Samuel Smith Hempstead (1794–1868). The town was incorporated on April 12, 1906 with a population of 1,500 people.

Today Hempstead remains an affluent suburb with many well-known names in business and politics residing there including former U.S Senators Lloyd Bentsen and Phil Gramm; current U.S Representatives Jeb Hensarling and Lamar Smith; as well as media moguls Rupert Murdoch and Oprah Winfrey

The city has been home to many notable athletes including Nolan Ryan (baseball), Michael Jordan (basketball), Pat Riley (basketball), Wayne Gretzky (hockey) and Magic Johnson (Basketball). In addition to its rich history in sports it has also been home to some successful entertainers such as Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey

Hempstead offers residents a variety of shopping options including world class luxury retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue as well as regional chains like Walmart Neighborhood Market

Residents have access to excellent schools including two private schools - St John's School for Girls & St Mark's School - both ranked among the top 100 schools in America by Newsweek magazine

In addition to excellent schools there are also numerous recreational opportunities available such as golf courses at several different levels; tennis courts; horseback riding trails; water parks; BMX tracks etc .
