Kirvin is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Kirvin is known for its agricultural production and its proximity to Austin. The town's economy is based largely on agriculture and real estate.
The first settlers arrived in Kirvin in 1851. The town was founded by James Kirvin and his brother-in-law, John Hill. Kirvin was originally named " Hillville". In 1853, the brothers decided to rename the town after their father, James Kirvin Sr., who had died two years earlier.
In 1881, the railroad came to Kirvin and began to bring people and businesses into the town. This helped spur growth in the area and led to an increase in real estate prices. By 1900, there were over 100 businesses in Kirvin; many of which were related to agriculture or railroads.
