Neches, TX

Neches is a small town located in Robertson County, Texas. The population was 2,898 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Texarkana, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The history of Neches can be traced back to 1836 when the land that now makes up Neches was granted to Moses Austin by the Mexican government. Austin built a trading post on this land and began to trade with Native Americans and Mexicans. In 1841, he founded the city of Austin which would eventually become the capital of Texas.

In 1849, James W. Fannin led a group of settlers into what is now Neches and established Fort Smith as their military headquarters during the Mexican-American War. After Fannin's death in 1850, his widow Sarah continued to live in Fort Smith until her death in 1856.

In 1860, after Texas became an independent republic, John Sibley established a trading post on what is now Main Street in Neches and began to sell goods to settlers who were coming into Robertson County from all over Texas and Arkansas. In 1870, Sibley built a store which he named after himself - J.Sibley & Co., which still stands today as one of the oldest businesses in Neches.

In 1880, Jethro Tull built his first cotton gin near what is now Highway 6 and started farming in Robertson County; this marked the beginning of agriculture in Neches. In 1886, Tull erected a large two-story frame building which still stands today at 501 East Main Street as Tull Gin Company Museum; it is open for tours every Saturday from May through October from 9:00am until 4:00pm (except for Christmas Day).

In 1890s and early 1900s there was an influx of German immigrants into Robertson County; many settled near what is now Highway 6 (now known as Old Route 66) where they started businesses such as bakeries and grocery stores which helped contribute to the growth of Neches during this time period.

During World War II there was an increase in population due to servicemen stationed at nearby Camp Hood; many families moved into homes that had been abandoned by farmers who had left for war industries elsewhere in Texas or Oklahoma Territory..

After World War II ended there was another wave of population growth due to people moving out of cities into rural areas due to increased availability of jobs; this trend continued throughout most of the 1960s and 1970s.. . . . Today there are still many families living in homes that have been owned by their ancestors since before World War II; however there has been an increase recently in retirees moving into town because it has become more affordable than living outside town.. . . . The majority (approximately 85%)of residential properties are owner-occupied while 15% are rented out.. .. The median price per square foot for residential properties within town limits was $37/square foot according to data collected by Zillow during Q3 2018.. .. According to recent data from Trulia ,the median list price for single family homes within 10 miles radius (which includes both Nechses AND Texarkana)was $109K while condos were priced at $92K
