New Waverly is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin- Round Rock metropolitan area.
The town was founded in 1881 by J.D. and Lizzie McClendon and named for their daughter, New Wales (Waverly) McClendon. The first post office opened in 1882 with J.D. as the postmaster; it closed in 1902 due to lack of business. A new post office opened in 1903 with Lizzie as the postmistress; it closed in 1957 due to lack of business again. The current New Waverly Post Office building was built in 1958 and is still open today (as of 2016).
