Snook, TX

Snook is a small town located in the Texas Hill Country. The population of Snook was just over 1,000 as of the 2010 census. The town is situated on the banks of the San Marcos River and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.

The history of Snook can be traced back to 1847 when Colonel John Snook and his wife, Elizabeth, purchased 640 acres of land in what is now Snook. Colonel Snook was a veteran of the Mexican-American War and he used his land to raise cattle and crops. In 1881, Colonel Snook's son, A.B., built a flour mill on the banks of the San Marcos River which helped to spur growth in the town. By 1910, there were enough people living in Snook to form a post office and elect a mayor.

Today, much has changed since 1910 when Snook was still primarily an agricultural community. The population has increased dramatically due to its close proximity to Austin which has made it an ideal location for commuters looking for affordable housing options. There are currently over 100 businesses located in Snook including several restaurants, two banks, two gas stations, two convenience stores, a hair salon, two barbershops and three churches.

The real estate market in Snook is very competitive due to its proximity to major cities such as Austin and San Antonio as well as its excellent schools which have resulted in high demand for homes within walking distance of downtown businesses or parks.
