Tilden is a small town located in the northeastern corner of Williamson County. The population was 2,906 at the 2010 census. Tilden is known for its agricultural production and its proximity to Austin.
The town's history can be traced back to 1876 when the railroad was extended to that point. A post office had been established in 1875, and by 1876 a small settlement had developed around it. The first settlers were farmers who came to Williamson County looking for fertile land and plenty of water. Tilden quickly became an agricultural community, with crops such as cotton, corn, wheat, and hay being grown. In addition to agriculture, Tilden was also home to several businesses such as a cotton gin and a general store.
Today, much of the town's economy revolves around real estate. There are several subdivisions in the town that have been developed over the years; many of these subdivisions are now considered desirable places to live due to their close proximity to Austin and all of the amenities that the city has to offer.
